The new unit of the National Wildlife Refuge System supports the Willamette Valley Oak and Prairie Cooperative’s vision and the long-running Oregon Conservation Strategy developed by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. Within the boundary of the conservation area, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is now able to work with willing landowners within the footprint to preserve areas important for conservation.

The conservation area joins three other national wildlife refuges – Ankeny, Baskett Slough, and William L. Finley – in protecting native plants and wildlife in the Willamette Valley.
