Paper birch also called Canoe birch (Betula papyrifera). Peeling birch is used for specialty products such as ice cream sticks, toothpicks, and toys. Indians made their lightweight, birchbark canoes by stretching the stripped bark over frames, sewing it and caulking the seams.
