Red shiner breeding male at Gavins Point National Fish Hatchery. Red shiners have a deep and compressed body and a sharp and compressed head. Males typically develop a sharply pointed snout that overhangs the terminal to slightly sub-terminal mouth. It has olive-green back, silver sides and a whitsih abdomen.
