MASON is the first, professionally trained dog to work for the U.S.. Fish and Wildlife Service, Division of Law Enforcement. He is the only federally comissioned K-9 in the field of wildlife detection.

MASON is stationed in San Diego, California, and searches international border ports of entry, international airports, cargo, and mail facilities.

The program was created at the port of San Diego by the wildlife inspectors and a special agent assigned to that port.

MASON was initially trained to find live parrots, reptiles, and medicines that contain protected wildlife parts are smuggled into the United States.
