Artist: Andrew Kneeland, 17
Hometown: Rock Springs, Wyo.
Species: Wood ducks
Andrew Kneeland grew up in Wyoming with four brothers. He was homeschooled to support his musical pursuits. He found wildlife images inspirational and his art teacher, Bonnie Christiansen, gave him the ability to create eye-catching elements in color and composition. In 2015, he chose wood ducks. When he studied them the female duck's iridescence wasn't the focal point, he liked that. The Latin name "Aix Sponsa" means "waterbird in wedding raiment" and he began to build on that theme for his theme.
