Monument managers collaborated with cultural advisors to establish naming principles. They organized a mud volcano naming competition alongside an educational program to strengthen local maritime ties. A panel of cultural advisors reviewed and ranked the entries, and the winning names were approved by the U.S. Board on Geographic Names in October 2023 and presented certificates to winners -Shelina Beltran and Kayli Salas.
