Join us for a behind the gates guided hiking tour of the beautiful St Marks National Wildlife Refuge. Participants will meet at the St. Marks NWR visitor center (1255 lighthouse road) at 11 am , we will depart at 11:10 to head to the start point. Don't be late. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early enough to restroom at the visitor center restroom prior to start time. The hike is scheduled to start at 11 am and it will be pulling out of the meeting area at 11:10 am, please plan accordingly. Hike end time is approximate.

Please pay attention to the following guidelines.

1. Sign-up is restricted to those 18 years of age and older, or if under 18 must be with registered guardian. Should be in good health with no medical conditions that would hinder the completion of the hike. (St. Marks NWR staff and volunteers are not liable for injuries, allergic reactions, or any acts of nature that occur during hike or on refuge property)

3. Pets are not allowed on any guided hike/tour.

4. All footwear must be closed-toe and suitable for the terrain. If a participant comes without the required footwear, they will not be allowed on the hike.

5. For your comfort and enjoyment we suggest that you dress for the weather, layers are a good idea. Carry a lightweight rain jacket for unexpected showers.

6. Practice pack it in, pack it out. Any trash, including biodegradable food and packaging, must be taken back with the attendee and disposed of off-site.

7. There will be no restrooms along any of the hiking routes taken. If an attendee(s) needs to use bathroom, please plan accordingly.

8. Leave all plants and animals alone. DO NOT engage in any of the following:

-Eating any leaves and/or berries found alongside trail

-Approaching, handling, or attempting to feed any wildlife

-Collecting any material, with the exception of trash, on refuge property.

9. Be aware. The refuge is home to venomous snakes, alligators, burrowing animals, and some endangered species. Stay safe, watch your step and try not to disturb any habitats or animals with loud noises.

10. Drink water to avoid dehydration even in cool temperatures. Recommended water intake is ½ L of water per hour while engaging in moderate activity at moderate temperatures. A good rule of thumb is to sip several ounces of water every 20 minutes for duration of activity.

11. Bring binoculars, camera, and bird books if you like.

Space is limited. As a courtesy to those on the wait list, if you find that you are unable to attend, please log back in and cancel your ticket to make room for someone else.
