When you think of migrating birds, songbirds often dominate the conversation. But many owls participate in this annual journey as well. The northern saw-whet owl, once thought as non-migratory, is one such bird that travels at night unseen.
Join LeJay Graffious from the Old Hemlock Foundation for a demonstration of banding northern saw-whet owls. Program takes place at the Lower FR80 Hunter Access Lot from 8pm until the first bird is processed or 10pm, whichever is earliest.
This bird-banding research project operates with all necessary federal and state permits. This demonstration is a free program open to the public. Please dress appropriately for the weather. This program may be canceled or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. Please stay tuned to our website and Facebook page for updates to this event.
Directions: From Davis, head south on Route 32 for 9 miles and turn left on Freeland Road. Head 1.5 miles down Freeland Road and the gravel parking lot will be on the right.
