Monument managers collaborated with cultural advisors to establish naming principles. They organized a mud volcano naming competition alongside an educational program to strengthen local maritime ties. A panel of cultural advisors reviewed and ranked the entries, and the winning names were approved by the U.S. Board on Geographic Names in October 2023 and presented to winners (Marilois Fernandez and Vianyka Reyes) at their school assembly.
