THIS PROGRAM HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO FORECASTED WEATHER
For the safety of staff and participants, outdoor programming will be cancelled in the event local areas are under an active advisory (Winter Weather, Wind Chill, or Lake Effect Snow) or an active warning (Blizzard, Winter Storm, Ice Storm, Wind Chill, or Lake Effect Snow), up to one hour before or after scheduled programming times. Programming will also be cancelled in the event the temperature is at 0°F (-17°C) or under at any point during scheduled programming times (factoring in wind chill).
With Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge covering over 14,000 acres, there are more than 45 miles of trails to discover! Join us for our Intro to Hiking series as we explore these trails in the winter. If conditions are met, snowshoes will be available. If you want to give snowshoes a try but aren't comfortable using them, we will be putting on Nature Novice: Snowshoe programming that walks participants through the basics of snowshoeing. Registration Information: 10 walk in spots available and 15 spots open for voluntary registration through Signup.com.
Activity Level: Medium-active, we will walk a good walking pace and make some stops.
Meet Us: Meet under the shelter at Old Cedar Avenue.
What to Bring: Good walking winter boots, water, and appropriate winter gear. Monitor weather forecast and be prepared for the temperature and precipitation. A cancellation notice will be sent via email to registered participants in the event of severe weather. If you are not registered, please monitor our website, SignUp, or MeetUp page.
Accessibility: A portable restroom is available at the Old Cedar Avenue pavilion. This walk takes place on mostly flat ground, however trails are not plowed, so be prepared to walk in snow if it is present.
Program Leader: This program is led by refuge staff.
