The Prairie Science Class

The Prairie Science Class (PSC) uses the local prairie wetlands ecosystem to blend science, math, language arts, health, and art.

  • Students are bussed to the Prairie Wetlands Learning Center and back for half of their school day, every day of the school year.
  • The remainder of their subjects are taught to them at Cleveland School.
  • PSC students spend part or all of their time at the prairie outside in the field, every day of the school year.
  • Fergus Falls School District teachers instruct PSC students at Cleveland Elementary and at the prairie.
  • U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service educators provide indoor and outdoor classroom leadership weekly

The mission of the Prairie Science Class is to use the local prairie wetlands ecosystem as an integrating and motivating context to engage 4th and 5th grade students in science, applied math, critical thinking, problem solving, and writing through real world, field-based learning experiences....
