Every year, we partner with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game to host workshops designed to help Alaskans learn how to best rehabilitate, protect, and care for that special area where land and water meet.
Our free Streambank Habitat and Rehabilitation Workshops are multi-day events consisting of hybrid classroom/hands-on learning opportunities. Topics include:
- fish habitat
- plant health
- erosional processes
- hydrology
- project considerations
- streambank rehabilitation techniques
The hands-on event pairs workshop participants with agency staff and local experienced contractors to install a bioengineering project.
Anyone interested is welcome to attend. The workshops tends to draw private landowners to agency personnel to contractors. Participants walk away with skills and experience to carry out projects on their own and become part of a supportive network of practitioners working together to improve, restore and protect streambanks and shorelines.
Typically three workshops are held annually, with one in each the Kenai Peninsula, Mat-Su, and Fairbanks regions (see below for a contact in your area).
