Volunteer Position Overview
About This Position
One individual (or one couple) volunteer Visitor Services Assistant, with duties focusing on outreach and environmental education, is needed for a 12-16 week position beginning August 2026 at the Alaska Peninsula & Becharof National Wildlife Refuges, with offices located in King Salmon, Alaska. Benefits include airfare between King Salmon and Anchorage, housing, and some food expenditure (we provide food while in the field OR reimbursement for food/incidentals pending receipts for up to $35/day while in King Salmon) in exchange for volunteering 40 hours/week toward refuge activities. This is not a paid position.
The Alaska Peninsula and Becharof National Wildlife Refuges’ lands extend some 350 miles from King Salmon to Cold Bay. Massive volcanoes topped with glaciers dominate the Aleutian Mountain Range that forms the spine of Refuge lands. These mountains create a divide, separating the rocky Pacific shores from the lakes and marshes of the Bristol Bay coastal plain. Combined, the two Refuges protect an impressive array of wildlife, including five species of Pacific salmon, brown bears, moose, caribou, and seabirds.
