Red-winged blackbird

They're here year-round, frequently seen sitting on tall grasses, cattails, wires, or on fenceposts along a canal, ditch, pond or lake. To some they might not look like anything special. But red-winged blackbirds (Agelaius phoeniceus) are a reminder that spring and warmer weather are not terribly far off. This species has a distinctive, easily identifiable call.
