About Shane Kasson
I began my work with USFWS in the National Wildlife Refuge System at Sequoyah NWR in eastern Oklahoma as a wildlife biologist focusing on wetland management, bottomland hardwood restoration, and restoring uplands in retired agricultural fields. Getting to help at the newly established Ozark Plateau NWR and learning about karst environments and cave species was a bonus during my time there. I transitioned to the management series and soon took the assistant manager at Tishomingo NWR in southern Oklahoma focusing more on public use along with wetlands, riparian riparian

Learn more about riparian corridors and adding grasslands to mix. From there I took my first refuge manager position at the Texas Mid-coast NWR Complex, leading programs for San Bernard and Big Boggy NWRs. A new learning experience in new ecosystems was exciting, as I added coastal prairie and marshes, nesting sea turtles, coastal bottomland forests and larger restoration projects to my experiences. Staying with saltwater, my next opportunity lead me to Salt Plains NWR where I've enjoyed continuing to build on restoration and invasive species invasive species
