We are working to close a case involving the shooting of an American bald eagle in Indiana and we need your help. We are seeking information regarding an eagle that was found shot and left for dead in northwest Boone County in March.
On March 27 2017, a three year-old eagle was recovered west of Thorntown, Indiana. The eagle was alive, but severely emaciated, and was taken to a local rehabilitation facility for examination. X-rays confirmed that the eagle had been shot and based on the amount of emaciation, it is estimated that the shooting occurred about a week prior. After consultation with the veterinarian, it was decided to euthanize the eagle.
We are offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information which leads to the conviction of any responsible party. Indiana Department of Natural Resources Turn in a Poacher is assisting as well by providing concerned citizens a confidential way to share relevant information about the investigation.
The bald eagle is currently protected by the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act and the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. The killing or possession of a bald eagle or its parts is a violation of both Acts, punishable by imprisonment of up to one year and a fine of up to $100,000.
