The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, in cooperation with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, is seeking public comment on a draft environmental assessment. The project purpose is to construct one new boat ramp facility on the Des Moines River in Ledges State Park located in Boone County, IA.
A goal for the State of Iowa and this project is to provide, maintain, and improve public access to navigable waters. Currently there is no boat ramp facility in Ledges State Park or the immediate area that provides safe and quality access to the Des Moines River for park users. The draft environmental assessment evaluates several proposed actions for boating access to the river within the park.
This environmental assessment was prepared in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act that applies to the actions of all federal agencies. The draft environmental assessment is available online at: http://www.fws.gov/midwest/news/documents/RiverAccessEA.pdf
Hard copies or additional information regarding the environmental assessment may be obtained from George Scholten, Fisheries Research Supervisor, at (515) 371-6915.
