Service Re-Opens Comment Period on Proposal to Delist Modoc Sucker

Klamath Falls, Ore. — The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service today announced the reopening of the public comment period on our February 13, 2014, proposed rule to remove the Modoc sucker from the Federal List of Endangered and Threatened Wildlife. The comment period is open for 30 days and will close on March 16, 2015.  The comment period is being reopened in order to comply with the public notification requirements of the Endangered Species Act.

By reopening the comment period, this action allows the Fish and Wildlife Service to accept and consider additional public comments on the proposed rule. Comments previously submitted need not be resubmitted, as they will be fully considered in preparation of the final listing determination.  We anticipate publishing a final determination on or before May 2015.

The Modoc sucker is a small species of fish primarily found in relatively small perennial and intermittent streams in southeastern Oregon and northeastern California. The Service intends that any final action resulting from this proposal be as accurate and effective as possible.

A copy of the proposed rule and other information about the Modoc sucker are available on the internet at http://www.regulations.gov and http://www.fws.gov/klamathfallsfwo, or by contacting the Klamath Falls Fish and Wildlife Office at 5418858481.

All comments and information on the proposed rule may be submitted electronically to http://www.regulations.gov under Docket No. FWSR8ES20130133 or in writing by U.S. mail or hand delivery to: Public Comments Processing, Attn: FWSR8ES20130133; Division of Policy and directives Management; U.S. Fish & Wildlife Headquarters, MS: BPHC, 5275 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church, VA 220413803. All comments will be posted on Regulations.gov in Docket No. FWSR8ES20130133 at http://www.regulations.gov.
