The Restle Unit

The Restle Unit is near Bloomington, IN

The Restle Unit of the Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge is a 78 acre parcel of land located on Bottom Road (just off Rt. 37) northwest of Bloomington, IN. The parcel was donated to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service by Mrs. Barbara Restle and is closed to public use except for an observation deck on Bottom Road. The observation deck provides a good view of most of the unit (including a marsh). Land adjacent to the unit is owned by the Sycamore Land Trust and public trails/boardwalks are available on Sycamore property in the Bean Blossom bottoms.

A variety of birds can usually be seen from the deck at the Restle Unit. Waterfowl, wading birds, and sometimes a bald eagle can be spotted from time to time around the marsh.
