Forsythe Big Nature Year

Plan Your Visit

2019 is the 80th Anniversary of Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge. We invite you to track your refuge bird and wildlife sightings for a friendly competition. We also hope you will use the year to explore all public use sites on the refuge. While you may often spend your time in our Galloway Township site, we have many other places to visit, including deCamp Wildlife Trail in Brick, Cedar Bonnet Island in Stafford, our trail at Eno's County Park, the Barnegat Boardwalk, and Holgate beach.

Rules and award categories follow. Keep in mind that we want everyone and anyone to participate. Don't have a whole year to give to this competition? Then stay tuned to our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/ForsytheNWR/) for monthly competitions. Not a birder? We have other categories for competition including butterflies, mammals and plants. Never been to the refuge? Give us a call or email to find out how to get involved! Never used eBird but would like to learn? The refuge will be hosting a class on eBird at the Visitor Information center in Galloway Twp so stay tuned for a date. Everyone is welcome.
 Rules:
  • Species must be observed on EB Forsythe NWR between January 1, 2019 and December 31, 2019.
  • All observations must be made from roads and trails open to public access. NO ACCESS TO CLOSED AREAS IS PERMITTED AS A PART OF THIS COMPETITION.
