The Lamar Fish Health Center located in Lamar, PA at the Northeast Fishery Center works to prevent the spread of aquatic diseases and keep our wild and hatchery fish healthy. In doing so, we help maintain healthy ecosystems across the Great Lakes to the Atlantic coast, and into the Ohio and Tennessee River basins. Our experts implement the Service’s Wild Fish Health Survey and work to forecast new emerging diseases, and prevent outbreaks in the United States.

About Us

The Lamar Fish Health Center works closely with regional aquatic animal health experts and university researchers, and with state and federal fish and wildlife agencies to prevent the inadvertent spread of disease organisms through release and transfers of fish across state, regional, and international boundaries.

What We Do

Lamar Fish Health Center experts provide services in pathogen detection and isolation, disease diagnosis, and provide recommendations for treatment, infection control, and maintaining biosecurity. They also provide recommendations on fish culture practices to support health of hatchery-raised fish
