The Wyoming Toad Conservation Area, established as a national wildlife refuge in October 2023. The refuge is the 569th unit of the National Wildlife Refuge System. Wetlands within the Wyoming Toad Conservation Area rely on flows from Sand Creek and the Laramie River. Residual plant coloration shows how variable wetland conditions are with straw-colored plants being higher and drier while reddish plants are often wet throughout the summer.
