The test (skeleton) of a keyhole sand dollar washed ashore at Cape Romain NWR. Layers of driftwood hold the flattened sea urchin like hands framing and displaying it for beachcombers walking by. The five-petal, flower-like pattern in the sand dollar is what remains of the five paired rows of pores the live animal used for gas and water exchange.
