This tiny silvery sand skink tops out at four inches long in adulthood and is known for "swimming" through the sand, its specially adapted front legs pressed into grooves along its body giving it a snake-like appearance. It lives on the scrub ridges and northern highlands of central Florida, but habitat loss, degradation, and fragmentation have drastically reduced their numbers.
