Diagram of an indoor recirculating tank upweller from above. Temperature-controlled water is pumped from the sump into the rectangular tank and then upwells through the mussel culture chambers. Water exits the culture chambers through the side drain and travels back to the sump. The air manifold keeps the algae in suspension. Adapted from Mair (2013) by Kristin Simanek, USFWS.
