2018-2019 Report to Congress- Aquatic Nuisance Species Task Force

Aquatic nuisance species (ANS) are nonindigenous species that threaten the diversity or abundance of native species, the ecological stability of infested waters, or any commercial, agricultural, aquacultural, or recreational activities dependent on such waters. As the world trade network continues to grow, new markets and trade routes continually open. This growth will likely increase the number and frequency of new species introductions. Unchecked, ANS have the potential to imperil public health and transform ecosystems, resulting in widespread environmental degradation.
