Another successful Fly Fishing 101 workshop led by expert angler Bill Carman is in the books! Geared toward beginners, the workshop kicked off with a comprehensive classroom session that covered all the essentials for anyone looking to dive into the world of fly fishing.
Bill started by walking participants through the key components of fly fishing; introducing them to the equipment they would need. From rods and reels to fly boxes and waders, attendees left well-versed in gear and their very own fly box with 5 complimentary flies. Carman also provided valuable tips on how to read a stream, which is essential for understanding where fish are likely to be found.
Before leaving the classroom, the attendees were able to practice tying different knots, learning how to securely attach flies to their lines. After the classroom session, the group gathered on the hatchery lawn for some practice casts, giving participants the chance to refine their skills before heading to the water.
Following a catered lunch, the group headed to Hatchery Creek where Bill provided on-stream fly-fishing instruction. Here, beginners had the opportunity to apply what they'd learned in the classroom to real-life conditions, casting into the creek and learning how to read the water for fish.
By the end of the day, participants left with new skills and a deeper understanding of fly-fishing! A special thanks to Bill Carman and the Friends of Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery, Inc. for partnering with us to provide these opportunities!
