Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery hosted another successful Outdoor Adventure Day with all of Russell County Schools’ 4th grade students! Around 275 students and staff joined us for a full day packed with learning, exploration, and FUN!
Most of our learning stations were outdoors, with a couple inside just to mix things up. Students rotated through hands‑on sessions covering a wide variety of topics: how to make goat milk soap, bees and pollination, Kentucky fish, protecting air and water quality, waste management with a focus on Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!, birds of prey, composting, mammals of Kentucky, and even how to make thread from rabbit fur! These 20‑minute lessons kept students engaged and excited all day long.
A huge thank‑you to all our incredible partners: Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, Hilltop Farm/Lora Walters, Kentucky Department of Air Quality, Gunnar's Bees, Sue Duncan and Three Trees Fiber Farm, Kentucky Department of Waste Management, Russell County's UK Extension Office, Kentucky Department of Water Quality, Lake Cumberland Wildlife Refuge, and The Friends of Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery for providing lunch for our partners.
We absolutely love hosting these special days and serving as an environmental education hub for all of South-Central Kentucky!
