Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery Hosts Fly Fishing 101 Workshop

Written By

Professional fly fisherman, Bill Carman, of Kentucky Wild led the first Fly Fishing 101 Workshop of the year at Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery. Twenty one eager participants joined Bill in the hatchery's classroom to begin the workshop with a presentation concerning the basic information needed to get started fly fishing. The appropriate gear needed, how to tie certain knots, how to read a stream, etc. were all discussed before the participants were able to get hands on experience tying knots themselves and practice casting outside the classroom. Lunch was provided by the Friends of Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery, Inc. before the workshop moved to Hatchery Creek for on-stream instruction. Despite frigid temps, the new anglers were able to catch fifteen fish! Thanks to the friends group and Bill Carman for continuously partnering with the hatchery to host this wonderful workshop!
