An exhibit by artist Marion Otnes at the Prairie Wetlands Learning Center
Opens Friday, April 15

First-hand knowledge of subject matter is the artist's hallmark. Marion paints individual birds and animals she and her husband, Gary, studied while banding birds and operating a wildlife rehabilitation center at their country home. They also spent 13 years in the Hudson Bay area of Canada banding shorebirds on the  pack ice.

Her watercolors are distinct in their soft reality. The mood is created with color and the vitality of the lifelike subject,” stated visitor services manager Joanne Ryan.  After intensive study of the subject species a painting is created.

All the native birds depicted in this exhibit have been observed on or around the lands of the Prairie Wetlands Learning Center. The timing of the exhibit coincides with the return of early spring migratory birds to the area. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service rangers will be available to provide information about recent bird activity that has been observed on the trails and grounds.

Visitors are welcome to list the species identified while hiking the trails and grounds of the Prairie Wetlands Learning Center. A wildlife sightings board is located near the visitor information desk.
