2024 Earth Day Event at Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery

Written By

Earth Day at Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery has always been a hit with the local community and this year was no exception! With 782 people in attendance and beautiful weather, the

event proved to be a Saturday well-spent learning about all things environment related while participants received many goodies along the way.

Multiple topics/activities were provided by the exhibitors from several different agencies. Some of those included learning about Kentucky native wildlife from Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, making pudding "dirt" cups with Russell County Public Library, temporary bug tattoos applies by WCNFH volunteers, birds of prey provided by the Liberty Nature Center, fly casting by Trout Unlimited with other exhibits set up by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kentucky Division of Air Quality, Kentucky Division of Forestry, Kentucky Division of Water, UK Extension Office, and Kentucky Division of Waste Management. Giveaways included plum, oak, and pecan trees, reusable shopping bags, recycled bracelets and frisbees.

We would like to offer a special thanks to all of the agencies that collaborated with us to make this event a success and the Friends of Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery, Inc. for providing the trees to giveaway and lunch for all our exhibitors!
