The Visitor Center Plaza has a large open space for gathering and getting an orientation to the refuge before either heading into the Visitor Center or out onto the trails.
Biking on the refuge trails is prohibited to reduce disturbance to wildlife, but biking to the refuge is welcome. Dedicated bicycle parking is available near the Education Shelter.
Close to the Visitor Center and trailhead are a small number of dedicated parking spots for electric and hybrid vehicles, along with one Chargepoint charging station that has connections for two electric vehicles.
The Education Shelter connected to the upper parking lot has accessible bathrooms that can be entered from the outside of the building and are open from dawn to dusk. The doors are manually opened (not powered).
The Education Shelter hosts school field trips and interpretive programs. The tables are available on a first-come basis for general use when they are not being used for programs.
