Wildlife observation at Mississippi Sandhill Crane is made easy with nature trails that travel through multiple habitats. From wetlands to savannas, pitcher plant bogs and cypress groves - the refuge trail system offers many opportunities to get into nature.

C. L. Dees Nature Trail

Located across the parking lot at the Visitor Center, this 3/4 mile loop trail will take you across wet pine savanna and down to Bayou Castille. Be sure to look out for the carnivorous plants like pitcher plants, butterworts and sundews, which can been seen year-round on this hike. Signs along the trail will describe the habitat and highlight what's currently in bloom.

Fontainebleau Nature Trail

To get to the trail, travel south from I-10 on Hwy 57 to U.S. Hwy 90. Turn south on Hanshaw Road trail is on the east side of the road (adjacent to the Ocean Springs Middle School). Fontainebleau trail is approximately one mile long and follows a ridge through pine forests and beautiful Davis Bayou vistas. Due to slight elevation changes and potential waterlogged areas, this trail is moderate and difficulty and appropriate footwear is recommended.
