Our annual hunt program is an important tool used to manage wildlife populations at levels compatible with available habitat. It also provides meaningful wildlife-oriented recreational opportunities. Funds generated through the purchase of hunting licenses and equipment contribute greatly to the conservation of public lands across the country. Hunting can be safely allowed while accommodating other recreational uses when state hunting regulations and refuge-specific restrictions are followed.
We allow hunting of waterfowl and other migratory game birds. These lands are accessible only by boat and are available daily for hunting during the state season dates that fall from September 1 through February 28. We are moving to RecAccess, a web-based portal being used nationwide by many federal agencies to issue hunt permits, for the 2026-27 hunt season. Our RecAccess portal is now open and available here for hunters to get the refuge brochure/permit.
