Wild edible foraging - Emiquon National Wildlife Refuge
Pear shaped mushrooms growing out of a lichen covered tree laying on the ground

Emiquon refuge is filled with tasty treats throughout the seasons. Spring is a great time to hunt for mushroom, like the coveted morel. In summer blackberry, gooseberry, and mulberries are plentiful. In fall, persimmons and many nut varieties are available to harvest.

Nut, berry and mushroom picking are allowed for personal use only. Before consuming any forgeable item, make sure you are confident in species identification. If you have any doubt, do not consume it.
