Help us celebrate the new mural by Hadassah GreenSky at Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge's John D. Dingell Jr. Visitor Center.
Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge has a brand-new mural, titled Zaagiing, painted by Artist Hadassah GreenSky in the lobby of the John D. Dingell Jr. Visitor Center. On Sat., December 20, 2025, 12:30 PM – 4 PM we will be celebrating the completion of the mural with a free and open to the public event.
This unique event will begin with a tranquil group walk to the Detroit River starting at the Visitor Center then heading into Humbug Marsh for a short hike, where GreenSky will lead a water ceremony. At the Visitor Center there will be a series of cultural presentations, including jingle dress dancing, song, and storytelling about the mural's design. Afterward, the public will have the chance to mingle, participate in hands-on activities like button making and explore the Visitor Center.
The International Wildlife Refuge Alliance and the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge have been working with GreenSky since May 2025 to develop the mural design and deliver public programming at the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge. GreenSky painted the mural with the assistance of two mentees, Brooklyn Christie and Anna Christie.
