Catch A Rainbow kids fishing derby is a FREE event at Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery for kids up to age 15. The hatchery and the Friends group partner together, along with our sponsors, to make this amazing day possible. We usually have around 1,500 registered participants and around 3,500 people in attendance. Kids fish Hatchery Creek during time slots for their age group and are awarded prizes for largest fish as well as door prizes. We feed everyone free hotdogs, snow cones, and drinks. There are other activities available while they wait their turn to fish, such as: archery, face painting, visiting Smokey Bear and Goldie the Fish, and casting competitions. This has been an annual tradition in Russell County, with participants from across the country, for over 30 years.
