Facility Activities

The District is open to wildlife-dependent recreation including hunting (deer, upland game and waterfowl), fishing, wildlife observation, wildlife photography, environmental education, interpretation, berry and mushroom and nut picking (for personal use only), hiking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing unless otherwise posted.

The best location for bicycling on the district is at the Swan Pond WPA in Dane county as a section of the paved Oregon Rotary Trail crosses through this waterfowl production area.

A multitude of bird species may be found across the diversity of habitats within the Leopold WMD. Many of the waterfowl production areas have gravel lots for parking and a handful of waterfowl production areas within the District have established trails.

The waterfowl production areas are open to cross country skiing and snowshoeing.

Dogs are required to be leashed on the waterfowl production areas unless engaged in hunting activities. Please respect other visitors when on trails with your dog by keeping your distance and cleaning up after your dog.

Although traditional geocaching is not allowed on the waterfowl production, earthcaching (virtual geocaching) is an available option for those who enjoy this activity.
