34th Annual Catch A Rainbow kids fishing derby

What began as a small event in 1986 has now blossomed into one of the largest and most anticipated events of its kind in the country!  This year’s 34st Annual Catch A Rainbow Kids Fishing Derby was held on Saturday, June 4, 2022 and took place at the Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery.

Designed as a way to get kids outdoors and connected to fishing, this event provides an opportunity for families to have fun with a rod and reel! Although the pandemic of 2020/2021 resulted in a pause of this annual event, the 2022 event was held with approximately 800 children participating. Support and planning for the event came about through generous donations from our wonderful sponsors and tireless volunteers. The event offered fishing, prizes, trophies, food, and much more at no charge! Families enjoyed the day with hotdogs, chips, cold drinks, snow cones, face painting and archery. Over fifty sponsors and one hundred volunteers ensured the event was a huge success.

The derby is hosted by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery and the Friends of Wolf Creek NFH, Inc. It is held the first Saturday in June of each year.
