Kīlauea Point National Wildlife Refuge Closed on Veteran's Day, November 11th
In honor of Veteran's Day, Kīlauea Point National Wildlife Refuge will be closed on Friday, November 11. Natural history interpreters will be stationed at the Refuge overlook to assist visitors throughout the day. The refuge will resume operating hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 12 and will waive entrance fees throughout Veteran's Day weekend, November 12-13.
Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar encouraged Americans to visit national public lands this Veteran's Day Weekend. The department is waiving admission fees at national parks, all 553 national wildlife refuges and the 245 million acres of land managed by the Bureau of Land Management during the weekend.
"Getting people out into nature is a key objective of President Obama's America's Great Outdoors initiative to work with communities and other partners across the country to establish a 21st Century conservation ethic and reconnect Americans to the natural world," Salazar said.
