LAST FALCON ON ENDANGERED SPECIES LIST MOVES TOWARD RECOVERY, Young Falcons Sent to Texas for Release

On June 5, 2003, twelve young Aplomado Falcon chicks will be transported to a release site in Texas. This annual rite of spring for the species has increased the wild population of Aplomado Falcons from zero as recent as 1994 to more than 39 known pairs in May 2003!

The young falcons are being flown from The Peregrine Funds World Center for Birds of Prey to Harlingen, Texas. Immediately upon arrival, biologists will drive them to release sites at Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge and on South Padre Island.
