Judging for the Texas entries will be held at Palm View Community Center March 26, beginning at 9 a.m. Entries will be judged in four categories according to grade levels. The top three entries in Texas will be awarded prizes of $1,000, $500 and $250. They, and the remainder of the top three entries in each category will be forwarded to the national Junior Duck Stamp competition in Washington, D.C.
Junior Duck Stamp Coordinator Mike Carlo, a ranger at Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge who is heading up the Texas program, announced that Larry Ditto, Ruth Hoyt, Richard Moore, Sean Smith and David Blankinship have been named judges for the 2002 contest. Santa Ana is hosting the contest for the second consecutive year.
