Trails
Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge offers two trails:
- Wetland Walk: a 2-mile trail loop that leaves from the Visitor Center and is open year-round and wanders through wetlands, vernal pools and riparian riparian
Definition of riparian habitat or riparian areas.
Learn more about riparian habitat. The north end is disabled-accessible. - Seasonal Trails: between Feb 15 - June 30, we offer an additional 6 miles of Seasonal Trails. Take a casual stroll through wetlands and vernal pools. In-ground blinds are available for photography (waders required). Access is from Parking Lot D, off of County Road 68.
Be Prepared! These are natural and wild areas. You may encounter ticks, mosquitoes, wasps, yellow-jackets, bees, poison oak, stinging nettle and poison hemlock.
This system of trails are only open only from February 15 - June 30. Up to 6 miles of trails through wetlands and vernal pools. In-ground blinds are available for photography (waders required). Access is from Parking Lot D, off of County Road 68. There is little to no shade on these trails. See brochure for more information.

Grab an interpretive booklet at the trail head and learn about the Complex and its wildlife and habitats. The north loop is disabled-accessible. The best times to see wildlife are in the early morning and late afternoon from November through February. To increase your chances of seeing animals, take binoculars, walk slowly, talk softly, and stay on the marked trail.
