Lacreek National Wildlife Refuge completed the 2022 Mid-Winter Waterfowl Survey on January 3rd with an estimated 10,200 Canada geese, 4,000 various ducks and 500 Trumpeter swans. As of March 3rd, the Refuge was providing habitat to at least 35,000 Canada geese, Trumpeter swans, and ducks returning north. Staff has identified mallard, redhead, northern pintail, goldeneye, scaup, green wing teal, ring-neck and American wigeon.

Lacreek National Wildlife Refuge is excited to share that we have a new prairie grouse viewing blind! Watch sunrise in the Sandhills overlooking the wetlands of Lacreek NWR while prairie grouse strut their stuff on a lek. A lek is a clearing with low vegetation where males perform courtship displays in the spring. Learn more here!
