To our knowledge, these young white shiners were some of the first ever produced in captivity! Edenton National Fish Hatchery has been working to spawn and grow these fish in captivity. Mussel Hatcheries use these fish to help grow endangered mussels. Without these fish to feed on, very young mussels will die.
