Join us for National Public Lands Day (NPLD) at Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge! Each year the wildlife refuge hosts events to celebrate public lands. This year we are excited to offer three events to the public.
Beach Cleanup at 9:00am: A variety of trash washes up from the ocean with every tide. During this NPLD Beach Cleanup we will also collect trash data for the International Coastal Cleanup. The Ocean Conservancy uses this data to understand where trash in the world's oceans is coming from and how we can begin work together to remove and avoid this trash in the future. When registering for this program please indicate your comfort level with walking 1, 2 or 3 miles as part of this cleanup. We will split into teams based on this data. Register Here!
Surf Fishing Clinic from 10:00am - 1:00pm: The Dolphinettes fishing club will be on the beach to guide new and returning anglers in the art of surf fishing. Come on down to the beach any time between 10:00am and 1:00pm to throw a line in the water. Please note that anyone 16 years or older must have a saltwater fishing license. All bait and tackle are provided. Registration helps us plan for participants. Please register here.
Freshwater Fishing Clinic from 10:00am - 1:00pm: The Tidewater Anglers fishing club will be at D-Pool with rods and reels for children and families to use. Come on down to the beach any time between 10:00am and 1:00pm to throw a line in the water. Please note that anyone 16 years or older must have a freshwater fishing license.
