Target Audience:

Those who manage volunteers.

Summary and Objectives:

This online course goes beyond the nuts and bolts of recruiting and managing volunteers. It focuses on leadership and the effective communication skills necessary to build management support, strategies to justify costs for a volunteer program, methods to involve refuge staff in using volunteer skills, and the creation of a positive and supportive environment for volunteers. The 6-week course consists of 11 online classes that are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2-4 p.m. (EST).

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Demonstrate improved leadership and effective communication skills.
  • Engage staff in planning for volunteer involvement.
  • Motivate volunteers and staff.
