In September 2022, the Mosquito Fire burned more than 76,000 acres near Foresthill, California. The fire burned through part of the Tahoe National Forest and the Big Gun Conservation Bank, which was home to one of the largest populations of California red-legged frogs in the Sierra Nevada.
