Holiday Open House at Mammoth Spring National Fish Hatchery

Mammoth Spring National Fish Hatchery held its annual Holiday Open House Event on December 3rd, 2022. The event took place in the Aquatic Conservation Center and Aquarium. The Center was decorated by staff and volunteers with lights, snow, ornaments, trees, garland, and Santa even visited to talk to the children. Along with the Friends Group for Mammoth Spring NFH and several students from the Mammoth Spring High School volunteered their time to help make cookies, handed out cookies and other sweet treats, hot cider, hot cocoa, and coffee. The students also helped visiting kids and parents to decorate and make holiday ornaments out of natural materials such as pinecones, sticks, and other outdoor items collected around the Hatchery.

The Holiday Open House event is hosted each year by the Hatchery to provide a unique winter-time opportunity to the surrounding communities to get together, enjoy each other’s company and learn about the importance of the environment. The event was enjoyed by approximately 150 people. Many new faces enjoyed the festive atmosphere and commented on how nice the hatchery is and all the fish in the Aquariums.  Many commented that they would be returning with friends and family. Knowing that this event reached so many people in a positive way and spread holiday cheer, provides a wonderful gift to the hatchery staff and Fish and Wildlife Service. Happy Holiday from Mammoth Spring National Fish Hatchery.
