U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Announces Request for Proposals for Great Lakes Endangered Species Projects

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service recently announced a request for project proposals to protect, restore and enhance Great Lakes endangered species under the Endangered Species Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. Up to $1.85 million in grants is available for projects that benefit federally endangered, threatened, candidate, or at-risk species. Deadline for proposal submission is March 22, 2010.

The program provides grants and other assistance on a competitive basis to individuals, groups, and government agencies engaged in voluntary conservation efforts to benefit species listed or proposed under the Endangered Species Act, as well as candidate or other at-risk species within the Great Lakes watershed in the United States.

Project proposals will be compiled, ranked and reviewed by a Service review panel, and final funding decisions will be made by the Service in late spring or early summer 2010.

The announcement and application guidelines can be found at http://www.fws.gov/midwest/Endangered/ and http://www.grants.gov/">
